A tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri, on May 6 was nothing like the EF5 twister that hit the area in 2011, killing 158 people. Still, it was large enough to cause power outages and leave hundreds of downed trees in its path through parts of Joplin and neighboring Carthage.
In response, Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief had assessors and a chainsaw team on the ground as early as May 8th with operations based out of Forest Park Church in Joplin.
“We already have one chainsaw team out working, with another one coming on the 10th,” said Jerry Palmer, white hat for the Joplin callout. “Plus, we have another team coming on Monday to replace the team that’s here now. Of course, we could always use more chainsaw teams and plenty of prayers,” he added. “The damage is primarily limited to trees on houses and trees and limbs down in yards and on driveways. But it still means there are a lot of families that need help, hope and healing.”
