MODR Hurricane Helene Response

MODR Hurricane Helene Response

It’s been nearly a week since Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane; yet the aftermath of the storm is still unfolding. Over 120 people have died in the storm and nearly two million people are still without power. Consequently, there is a great deal of need for Help, Hope and Healing.

In response, Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief has established a base at the Fleming Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. By end of the first day on site, the mass feeding unit had already passed out water and served 720 meals to residents in need. In the meantime, other MODR volunteers tarped a local roof that was damaged, and set up a charging station for the neighborhood so residents and volunteers could charge their cell phones, computers, etc.

However, as the needs have become obvious, so has the response from MODR. As an example, the mass feeding unit is now producing 10,000 meals per day that are being distributed by the Red Cross and served to walk-up residents. Chaplains, Assessors and Chainsaw teams will soon be arriving, as needed, as well, since it appears Helene will require and on-going response.

Please continue to pray for those affected by the hurricane, as well as the volunteers. To support the teams financially, visit www.modr.org/give and select Hurricane Helene from the drop-down menu.
