MODR responds to tornado devastation in Southwest Missouri

On the morning of April 29, a powerful line of storms swept through Southwest Missouri, leaving behind significant damage across the region. In the wake of the tornadoes, Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief (MODR) teams quickly mobilized, assessing the impact and establishing two response sites—one in Monett and another in North Springfield.

Thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers, cleanup efforts began that very day. Crews have already been hard at work helping homeowners remove fallen trees and debris. Yet, much remains to be done, and our teams are committed to staying the course as long as needed.

In addition to cleanup efforts, our MODR Feeding Team deployed the Quick Response Feeding Unit (QRU) to Springfield to provide hot meals for residents left without power. Over the course of four days, the QRU served more than 1,800 meals through a drive-thru system—bringing not just nourishment, but compassion and hope to storm survivors.

“It’s a great blessing, it really is,” said Jana Stahlhuth, Feeding Coordinator. “Sometimes they’re just crying when they come to the car, and we hand them food. Sometimes we pray with them. Or sometimes I start crying too!”
